Being able to present three paintings of exquisite quality and importance by the most internationally renowned 19th century Austrian painter is not something that we are able to do every day. A representative of an entirely innovative concept of reality, Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller created a new style shaped by light, realism and existential authenticity which influenced not only his contemporaries but also numerous eminent artists after him. The importance of light in his painting, heralding an Impressionist understanding of art, his unquestioning quest for reality and not least his formidable technical ability place him firmly among the great European painters of the 19th century.

All the major museums in the world (from Berlin to New York, from Paris to London) recognise this by showing his paintings. These works’ different genres (a mother’s joy, a young girl’s zest for life, the symbiosis between man and animal as a basis of rural life) illustrate the range of his artistic output, which was invariably informed by innovation and curiosity. Though he did not set out to create idylls, his paintings often ended up yielding a sense of beauty, harmony and joie de vivre.

From a collector’s perspective, Waldmüller’s works provide an ideal synthesis of high value, safe investment and artistic delight. The fact that we are able to offer this with three different paintings fills us with joy.

We would be delighted to welcome you at our gallery to view these works, whose special presentation is embedded into an exhibition of eminent 19th and 20th century Austrian painting.
