Biography

Rudolf Ribarz started his studies at the Academy of Vienna in the landscape painting class of Albert Zimmermann. Emil Jakob Schindler, Eugen Jettel and Robert Russ were his colleagues. He finished his studies in 1869 and took part in the First International Art Exhibition in Munich. In 1875 he moved to Paris. The coast, the Normandy and a few stays in the Netherlands and Belgium gave him his motives. Strong contrasts and the concentration on the essentials are significant. After 1880 the colours became lighter. The “Ansicht von Dordrecht” (panorama of Dordrecht) awarded him the golden medal and international acceptance.
