Wilhelm Steinfeld is the son of the important landscape painter Franz Steinfeld. He was initially a pupil of his father and then attended the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1829 to 1834. From 1835, he took part in the academy exhibitions. Stylistically, he followed his father's example. Steinfeld's paintings can be found in the Belvedere, the Wien Museum and the Grazer Landesmuseum.
