Sergius Pauser studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in the classes of Carl Johann Becker-Gundahl, Ludwig von Herterich, Max Dörner and Karl Caspar from 1919 to 1924. During these years the works of Carl Hofer, Max Beckmann and Otto Dix were very important to Pauser. In 1925 and 1926 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in the class of Karl Sterrer. 1927 he became member of the Vienna Secession. He took part in many national and international exhibitions and was honoured with a great number of awards (twice with the great Austrian States Prize). Supported by Fritz Sinaiberger, one of his wealthy pupils, he travelled to Italy, Switzerland and France. From 1943 to 1966 he headed a master painting class at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. His main subjects were landscape, still-life and portrait painting. In his very early works influence of expressionism can be felt, in the 1920ties Pauser became important exponent of the “Neue Sachlichkeit”.
