Josef Stoitzner studied at the Viennese School for Arts and Crafts before attending the class of Franz Rumpler at the Vienna Academy of fine Arts in 1906. From 1905 on he also worked as a teacher for drawing, and from 1916 to 1919 as the successor of Tina Blau at the Academy for Women. Stoitzner was a member of the Vienna Secession since 1909, in 1939 he joined the “Wiener Künstlerhaus”. Beside still-lifes and interiors, Stoitzner showed particular interest in painting landscapes during their seasonal transition.
